Red Giant have published an interesting tutorial showing how to generate normal maps using Trapcode Form. This allows for some pretty cool motion-graphics style effects when used in combination with my free relighting plugin Normality for After Effects, as the tutorial goes on to explain.
Normality and Blender
William Patin over at TwentyFourBecks has found a way to render out normal passes from Blender that will work with Normality.
videocopilot.net Tutorial
Andrew Kramer has just written to inform me about his in-depth (and hilarious) tutorial on my free After Effects plug-in Normality!
If you’ve ever wondered what the plug-in is about or how you can improve your shading and lighting work-flow, you should definitely check out Andrew’s tutorial 95. Scene Re-lighting.
After watching this I think even my girl-friend finally understands what I’ve been working on all these years!
Normality 3 Video Tutorial
I have created a short tutorial video to introduce users to Normality 3 and its numerous features.
The video is split into two parts, each around 10 minutes in length.
Normality Video Tutorial Part 1/2
In part one of this tutorial I speak about the basics of setting up a composition with Normality in After Effects. We’ll look into the different options when it comes to normal passes, the various light types and falloffs and we’ll apply some basic shading to our model.
Normality Video Tutorial Part 2/2
In the second part we’ll dive into rim lighting, toon shading, reflections, refractions, bump mapping and I show you how to composite the lighting from normality with a pre-rendered textured object.
I hope this tutorial will clear up a few things for new users and perhaps show some tricks to people already familiar with the software.
